This was the first manned launch of the gigantic Saturn 5 rocket, the first manned flight to leave earth orbit and the first to circle the moon.

I grew up in the newspaper business and have been taking pictures my entire life - look at the profile photo: We used that on our Christmas Card in 1940 when I was just 6 weeks old. In 1965 I moved to Brevard County, Florida, to work as a newspaper reporter. It was an exciting time, and for a brief time between newspaper jobs I worked at Cape Canaveral as a darkroom technician on the last part of the Gemini program. My newspaper jobs were as a reporter, so I had the freedom to experiment with pictures, and I didn't have to worry if my experiments failed.
